Health Literacy

Health Literacy is defined as
“the ability to read and understand basic medical instructions
and information such as prescription bottles, appointment slips,
test results, consent forms, insurance forms and other
health-related materials required to successfully function as a
patient”.

Alarmingly, it is estimated that 90 million Americans suffer from limited health literacy skills.  The AMA Foundation has put together an informative DVD.

Alliance members present this DVD to medical office staff and health care professionals. The presentation (DVD and brief discussion) takes less than 1 hour.
