Body Works

Twenty years ago, our Alliance contributed a room at the Lakeshore Museum Center (formerly the Muskegon County Museum) called Body Works. The gallery was developed in the early 80’s to educate museum visitors about how the human body works.

The exhibit went through a major face-lift in 2005 The current goal is to stress the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices. The theme of the Body Works Gallery is all up to you!

The project is a cooperative effort between our Alliance, the museum and the Muskegon County Health Department. Visitors will learn that the choices they make each day affect their health and well being. Hands-on opportunities are found throughout the gallery and include an exercise bicycle, resistance activities and a computer kiosks.

A major focus of the exhibit is eating properly. Other issues addressed in the gallery include blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, skin cancer, effects of tobacco & alcohol use and the importance of good dental health.

Our Alliance also provides docents who lead tours of elementary school children through the exhibit.
